Dark-Platypus Action Stands offer a convenient way to keep track of individual damage and effects on identical figures, whether in a role-playing game, tactical skirmish game, or large-scale strategic wargame.
What are Action Stands?
Action stands are a solution to book-keeping confusion for gamers
Basically, Action Stands are small pewter widgets (we call 'em 'Stands') that prominently feature different numbers on them, and that easily (temporarily or permanently) affix to your gaming miniatures to assign those numbers to your otherwise identical figures! They are sold in packs of 10, and each pack also includes 10 number stickers (available in a variety of colors and denominations). Each Action Stand is magnetic on both the top and the bottom, allowing them to stand easily on our Magna-Map Combat Grid, and also allowing an unlimited variety of magnetic Status Flags to be added on top, to denote temporary conditions affecting a figure.
To provide an example of how they work and what they're good for, look to the picture below. Here we see a dungeon room filled with 4 skeletal wyrmlings (sculpted by me; available from Goodman Games). Your adventuring party (not pictured) bursts into the room. In round one, the fighter deals 16 points of damage to one of them, and the elf ranger shoots another one for 3 points. In future rounds, the DM is going to have a little bit of work on his hands remembering which was which, especially if they start moving around the room!!
However, note the 4 Action Stands that have been placed next to the figures. Each one is numbered, so now the GM can mark the damage on a separate sheet, and will always know in the future which skeletons were wounded. And players can announce "I'm attacking skeleton number 3", which further cuts down on confusion. Also note the 'Bloodied' status flag that has been placed atop number 4, to indicate that he's at half hit points.
I've used a role-playing example here, but these things are equally at home in space combat simulations, massive battlefields both archaic and futuristic, and really just about any game where you might want to tell otherwise similar units apart. Get sets with different colors and you can easily assign teams or differentiate squads. ACTION STANDS SETS
Each set below contains 10 Action Stands (assembly required), and 10 stickers. The stickers vary by denomination (1-10 or 11-20, for example) by text color, and by background color. Thus, set one, reading 1-10, White on Black, means that it contains stickers with numbers reading from 1 to 10, in white text on a black background.
Keep track of Temporary Effects
Dark-Platypus Status Flags are essentially sheets of die-cut laminated stickers that you can use to assign temporary effects to your monsters and pcs, using our Action Stands or another method of your choosing. Our first Status Flag sheet contains over 100 flags great for use with 4th Edition D&D. It's more flags than you're going to need, but it lets you customize the flags you want for your game.
As you can see, the flags are simplicity itself to attach to any Action Stand when they have been wrapped around one of our Status Flag Bars, which are simply 1/4" long tiny magnetic posts. They'll stack up very high, so you can add multiple states to a single creature.
